Beauregard and Cider and Dragon Festivals

During your stay at the campsite Les Peupliers in Merville-Franceville, you can’t miss two festivals that sound like cultural institutions in Calvados, the Beauregard and Cidre et Dragons festivals.

The Cider and Dragons Festival

The festival is a moment of enchantment. You are no longer in Merville-Franceville but, for a weekend, in the fabulous city of Merravilla, home of all imaginings. Each year, nearly 50,000 people flock to meet the artists. Here we are, back in the old days, in a mixture of the Middle Ages and fantasy lands. Troubadours and minstrels compete for the applause of visitors with elves and trolls. There are even Vikings. Fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit will have a field day. But beware, the world of Merravilla is alive and kicking, and in its streets the most radical of the three clans fighting for magical powers are at work. The Brasiards, the Venguins and the Misty, with their recognisable colours.

Created in 2006, the festival is held every year on the third weekend of September and literally takes over the town of Merville-Franceville. You will enjoy art exhibitions, street theatre performances, a medieval market and many other events. But above all, it is the incredible atmosphere in the town, the costumed characters and the constant happening that make the festival a great place to be with family and friends. There is a concert on Saturday evening.

The Beauregard festival in Hérouville Saint Clair

Since 2009, thousands of music lovers have flocked to the Beauregard Festival every year in early July. The festival takes its name from the Château de Beauregard, whose 23-hectare park serves as a backdrop to the event. The Château is located in Hérouville Saint Clair, south of Caen, not far from the Peupliers campsite.

The festival aims to be eclectic. All styles of music can be heard on the two stages set up in the castle park and equipped with giant screens. For four days, you can enjoy the latest rap and electro music, as well as the arrival of stars from the 80s and 90s. French chanson is also in the spotlight. To give you an idea of the quality of the singers and groups who have performed at the Beauregard festival, we can mention Bernard Lavilliers, Clara Luciani, Rome Elvis, Therapie Taxi and Angèle. It is the summer’s meeting place for the pop, rock, rap and alternative scene in the Caen region. In recent years, the festival has been oriented towards sustainable development. Everything is organised for the comfort of festival-goers and respect for nature, selective sorting, organic shops and catering, shuttles to and from the festival….
